The Grip: An Essential Hold
A good grip is crucial for preventing your feet from slipping. While all grips are effective initially, poor-quality ones become slippery after several uses. There are different grain sizes, and it is important to check if the grip can be easily replaced. Make sure you can buy replacement grips to extend the lifespan of your electric skateboard. Trucks: Stability and Maneuverability
The trucks do more than just attach the wheels of your skate; they play an essential role in your ability to turn and carve easily. For an electric skateboard, they must also offer high-speed stability to avoid the wobble effect (board wobbling) and potential falls. The Lithium Battery: A Key Element of the Electric Skateboard
Battery Capacity in Watt.Hour (W.h) and Range
The battery capacity, measured in W.h, directly influences the skateboard's range:
- Entry level: 80 W.h batteries offer limited range, often just a few kilometers.
- High-end: Batteries over 500 W.h can provide a range of several tens of kilometers. Evolve offers batteries ranging from 144 W.h for our travel battery to 864 W.h for our mountainboard and the Diablo series.
Beware of the autonomy announced by manufacturers, often overestimated. It is preferable to compare the models based on the capacity in W.h. Sometimes, the capacity is given in ampere-hour (A.h). To convert to W.h, multiply this figure (in A.h) by the voltage (in V): for example, the Diablo battery of 20 A.h and 43.2 V is 864 W.h - (20 A.h * 43.2 V = 864 W.h).
The quality of the controller and electric motors also influences, but by a maximum of 10 or 15%, and of course the final autonomy will depend on the type of terrain, your weight, your way of riding…
The longevity of batteries: Why is quality essential?
The durability of an electric skateboard battery primarily depends on two factors: the quality of the cells and the quality of the Battery Management System (BMS).
Quality of the cells: The cells are the individual components that store energy in a battery. At Evolve, we use cells from recognized brands like Samsung and Molicel. These cells ensure better performance and a longer lifespan compared to unbranded cells often used in lower-quality batteries.
Battery Management System (BMS) : The BMS is the "brain" of the battery. It controls several aspects of its operation to ensure its safety and longevity. A high-quality BMS, like those we use at Evolve, monitors among other things the charging and discharging of the battery, preventing overcharging and excessive discharging that can damage the cells.

Choosing the right wheels is crucial because they determine the behavior of your skate, the type of terrain you can ride, and even the maximum speed of your skateboard.
Common rules for electric skate wheels:
- Hardness of the rubber : The harder the rubber, the higher the battery range.
- Wheel diameter : Smaller diameter wheels make the skate more responsive, ideal for urban use on asphalt and bike paths. Larger wheels make it easier to overcome obstacles, while smaller wheels increase the risk of falling.
All-Terrain Wheels
Evolve All-Terrain wheels are available in two sizes, 175mm and 150mm, and in different colors (blue, black, red, white). These wheels are designed to offer excellent grip and optimal comfort on uneven terrain.
