In this article, we will guide you through the simple yet crucial process of belt tensioning for your Evolve electric skateboard. Maintaining correct tension is essential to ensure the longevity of your board and optimize its performance.

Signs of a Tension Problem

  • Loss of performance: If your skateboard's range decreases, it may be due to an overly tight belt.
  • Clicking noise: A noise during braking indicates that the belt is slipping on the gear due to a loose belt.
  • Premature wear: An overly tight belt puts excessive strain on electronic components, which can damage them.

Necessary Tools

  • 1/8 Allen Key (= 3.17mm)
  • Y-Tool provided with your board

Steps to Adjust Belt Tension

1. Board Preparation

Place your board on the side to access the necessary components. Remove the wheel using the Y-Tool.

2. Removal of the Belt Guard, Gear, and Belt

Use the Allen key to remove the two screws securing the guard to the motor plate. Remove the gear and the belt to access the motor screws.

3. Tension Adjustment

  • Loosen the motor screws:

Loosen the four screws that attach the motor to the motor plate. Do not remove them completely, leave them slightly loosened to allow the motor to move.

  • Positioning the motor:

Slide the motor back and forth to adjust the belt tension.

For optimal tension: The belt should have about 5 mm of play when pressed. This ensures it is not too tight, creating excessive friction, nor too loose, which could lead to slippage.

  • Temporary fastening: Once the tension is adjusted, temporarily tighten two of the screws accessible inside the motor to maintain the tension.

  • Check with the wheel: Reattach the wheel to check the belt tension. Spin the wheel to ensure it turns freely without sudden stopping.

  • Final adjustment: If the belt is still too loose or too tight, loosen the screws again and adjust the motor position until the correct tension is achieved.

4. Reassembly

  • Remove the wheel, the belt, and the gear to tighten the screws of the motor plate.

  • Replace the gear and the belt. Then put the belt guard and the wheel back in place. A little tip for screwing the wheel: tighten the screw fully, then loosen it by about 1/8 of a turn.

  • Ensure that the wheel turns freely and that the belt is neither too loose nor too tight.

Practical Tips

Use a heat gun or a hairdryer to loosen the screws if they are difficult to unscrew.

By following these steps, you will ensure optimal performance of your Evolve electric skateboard.

Don't forget to regularly check the tension of your belt as part of your maintenance routine to avoid potential issues.
