COMPARISON: APPLETREE APPLESLICE PRONE vs CLASSIC EPS PRONE BOARD
| Criterion | AppleSlice Prone (Appletree) | Classic EPS/fiberglass Prone board |
|---|---|---|
| Construction | 100% carbon + 50K closed cell foam | Fiberglass + EPS foam |
| Waterproofness | Closed-cell foam: never absorbs water | EPS absorbs water in case of impact |
| Rigidity | Maximum (full carbon), ultra-efficient pumping | Good, but some flex possible under load |
| Foil attachment | FUTURES oneshot in carbon PET honeycomb panel | Standard glued inserts |
| Nose design | Patented V-Nose: paddling stability & take-off | Classic nose |
| Rails | Sharp + Performance Rail Line for high-speed carving | Standard rails |
| Manufacturing | CNC shaping with a hand finish, all from the Appletree factory in Portugal. | Series molding, Asia |
| Durability | Excellent, with no delamination thanks to vacuum injection. | Average, susceptible to heel dents and delamination. |
Verdict: The AppleSlice Prone stands out with its full carbon construction and exclusive 50K foam. These features guarantee zero water intake, optimal rigidity for pumping, and superior longevity compared to classic EPS constructions.
THE APPLESLICE PRONE IN DETAIL
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
A shape born from Appletree's best designs.
The AppleSlice Prone is a fusion of Appletree's most proven shapes. Wieger Buurma, the brand's co-founder, combined characteristics from the small Slice Wing and kite boards to create a shape specifically for prone foiling. Its wider outline promotes efficient paddling, while the carefully calibrated lift profile allows for smooth, confident take-offs. The raised nose improves control in steep drops, and the sharpened profiles, combined with assertive rail lines, ensure fluid rail-to-rail transitions at high speed.
V-Nose & Performance Rail Line
The V-Nose is the signature of the AppleSlice Prone. It adds frontal stability during paddling and take-off, reducing vibrations during critical moments. The Performance Rail Line, with its finely calibrated bottom edges, allows for smooth carving transitions at high speed. The sharpened rails offer additional clearance during aggressive turns to prevent catching, while the Soft Water Entry ensures progressive and uninterrupted rail-to-water engagement. On larger sizes, a Forward Foil Box improves balance and compatibility with smaller foils in powerful Surf conditions.
Full carbon construction
Every AppleSlice Prone starts with a 50K closed-cell foam core, exclusively formulated for Appletree. This foam supports 50.000 kg/m² while remaining lightweight and flexible. Being closed-cell, it never absorbs water, and the board won't swell in the heat. The lamination is done by vacuum injection: the carbon layers are laid dry, air is extracted from the bag, then epoxy resin is injected under pressure. The result is an optimal fiber/resin ratio, perfect adhesion to the core, and zero delamination. Additional reinforcements under the feet prevent dents.
Ultra-strong foil attachment
The foil attachment point is the most stressed area of a foil board. Appletree pays particular attention to it. The mount is CNC machined with the board for maximum precision. Only FUTURES oneshot fin box are used. They are recognized as the strongest in the industry. They are installed in an ultra-high-density PET honeycomb panel. This panel is itself sandwiched with carbon on both sides. The open structure of the honeycomb ensures a total connection between the inside and outside. This fuses everything into an inseparable monolithic block.

FAQ
Who is the AppleSlice Prone for?
The AppleSlice Prone is designed for intermediate to expert prone foiling riders. The smaller sizes (4'0, 4'2) are also perfect for kite foil and wake foil. If you're a heavier rider or need more stability when paddling, the 4'8 (38L) is an ideal choice.
What are the advantages of the AppleSlice Prone?
Its 100% carbon construction with 50K closed-cell foam delivers maximum rigidity, zero water absorption, and ultra-efficient pumping. The V-Nose reduces vibrations during take-off, and the sharp rails allow for aggressive, catch-free carving.
What available sizes are there?
The AppleSlice Prone is available in 5 sizes: 4'0 (17L), 4'2 (22L), 4'4 (27L), 4'6 (32L), and 4'8 (38L). The larger sizes feature a Forward Foil Box for more versatility.
Is the AppleSlice Prone compatible with all foils?
Yes, the board uses standard FUTURES oneshot fin box. This makes it compatible with all foils on the market using this system. The large sizes offer a Forward Foil Box for small foils in strong conditions.
How do you maintain the AppleSlice Prone?
Rinse your board with fresh water after each session. Dry it in the shade, and avoid prolonged sun exposure. The closed-cell foam won't absorb water, but protect any impacts with epoxy resin. Always store it flat in a bag.
